Former Australian Olympic Swimmer Scott Miller Arrested, Accused Of Running Drug Ring

Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller was arrested on Tuesday in Australia and charged with drug trafficking. Police are also accusing him of being the head of a major crime syndicate.

“Others, it will be alleged, are working under his instruction,” Police Detective Superintendent John Watson said.

ESPN reports that Miller, 45, and an unidentified 47-year-old man were arrested at their homes. An investigation was launched after police found eight candles filled with methamphetamine in January. Authorities discovered about 2 million Australian dollars ($1.6 million) worth of methamphetamine.

According to CNN, one kilogram of heroin, cell phones, documents, and nearly $60,000 in cash was seized during the raid.

The two men were allegedly distributing drugs from Sydney that was headed to New South Wales, according to the outlet.

Police expect that more charges will be tacked on.

Miller was a silver medalist in the 100-meter butterfly at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He also took home a bronze medal as part of the Australian 4×100 meter medley relay team.
