The Australian Senator who wrote a scathing statement which blamed the horrific New Zealand mosque shootings on immigration got smacked in the head with an egg by a protester.
Sen. Fraser Anning outraged people all over the world on Friday after he tweeted his own hateful opinions after the attacks.
“Does anyone still dispute the link between immigration and violence?”
He later defended his position in a full-page statement he distributed later in the day.
“The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which follows Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,” his statement read.
The Senator now faces criticism from his fellow lawmakers after sparking outrage by blaming Muslim immigration for the attacks.
Australian lawmakers want to establish that Sen. Anning’s anti-immigration and anti-Muslim views are his and his alone.
During a news conference Sen. Anning held on Saturday in Melbourne, television cameras caught a 17-year-old boy breaking an egg on Anning’s head as he then briefly scuffled with the politician before other bystanders wrestled him to the ground.
Police officials said the teenager was arrested but was released without charges pending a further investigation.
