An autopsy revealed a missing 5-year-old New Hampshire boy found dead in a Massachusetts park died from neglect, violence, and acute fentanyl intoxication.
Elijah Lewis‘ manner of death was listed as a homicide, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office on Monday. Specifically, he died from “violence and neglect, including facial and scalp injuries, acute fentanyl intoxication, malnourishment and pressure ulcers,” according to the autopsy.
Lewis was reported missing on October 14 by New Hampshire’s Division for Children, Youth & Families. He had not been reported missing prior. His body was found buried in a wooded area in Abington nine days later.
Elijah’s mother, Danielle Denise Dauphinais, 35, and her boyfriend, Joseph Stapf, 30, were arrested in New York City and charged with child endangerment and witness tampering. They pleaded guilty last month and remain behind bars without bail.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said the investigation into the boys’ death remains active and ongoing.
