Rapper Baby Tate is opening up about her music debt after fans slammed her over a GoFundMe campaign made for her boyfriend.
After sharing a post on Instagram about her boyfriend’s stolen car, Baby Tate asked followers to either “share” or “donate if you can” to his fundraiser. The campaign has raised just over $1,000 of its $10,000 goal so far. The performer was met with backlash from fans questioning why a signed artist would ask for donations.
“Lol like I literally owe Warner 1.5 million dollars,” Tate responded to a fan defending her in the comment section. “But God forbid I try and help my boyfriend replace his car through community donations instead of just buying him a brand new one off the lot!”
Tate also addressed the critics on her Instagram Story as well.
“All I actually asked is for y’all to share,” she wrote. “It’s sad that all some of you wanted to share was negativity! Keywords are clearly lost on the community because of poor reading comprehension skills otherwise the ‘donate if you can’ wouldn’t have ruffled your feathers so much.”
Tate ended with a message on economic hardship and unity: “The entire world is experiencing a recession. The greatest power we have as people is coming together as a community.”
Baby Tate signed with Warner Music Group in 2021. She earned her first Billboard entry in January 2022 for her contribution to the JID and 21 Savage track “Surround Sound,” which debuted at No. 90 on the Hot 100. She released her last project, “Tate Tuesday, Vol. 1,” in October 2024, which was composed of previously released songs and newer ones.
