As the investigation into the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO is still active, a backpack found in Central Park has become the key focus of Brian Thompson‘s murder.
The chilling discovery was made near Heckscher Playground, but according to multiple reports, the gray backpack was full of monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket. The New York Police Department believed that the backpack belonged to the unidentified shooting suspect. Despite no firearms being discovered on the scene, authorities are still uncertain if the jacket matches the one the suspect was seen wearing in surveillance footage.
Since the backpack was found, police have heightened their search in Central Park, focusing more on wooded areas and locations like Bethesda Fountain. Additionally, NBC News has reported that authorities have searched through ponds and surrounding terrain in hopes of uncovering new information.
Nonetheless, as the investigation continues, the New York Police Department has recently released new images, capturing a man wearing a hoodie, jacket, and mask inside and outside a taxi. However, the jacket appeared to be different from what the suspect was seen wearing at the crime scene. As of now, authorities are urging the public to assist in identifying the shooter and even offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who shares information that can lead to an arrest and conviction.
