Oscars Slap Ain’t Stopping Nothing: Martin Lawrence Says Bad Boys 4 is Still Happening

It’s Bad Boys for life.

Martin Lawrence says he has no plans to stop filming with Will Smith for the franchise’s fourth installment.

During an interview with Ebony, Lawrence stated, “We got one more at least.”

It makes sense that the duo would work together again to follow up Bad Boys for Life, which earned $426 million worldwide. However, Smith’s career came to an hault following the Oscar slap this year.

Since then, Smith’s third National Geographic series, Pole to Pole, was temporarily shelved, while the sequel to his Netflix movie Bright was canceled due to a decision “unrelated to the incident.”

Despite the film’s potential for film festivals and an Oscar nomination next year, Apple pushed Emancipation’s release to 2023.
Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony, referred to reports that the studio had stopped production on Bad Boys 4 due to the Oscars slap as “inaccurate.”

“That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving,” Rothman told Deadline. “That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person.”

“That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment in front of the world,” he continued. “I believe his apology and regret are genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption.”
