Balenciaga has officially released its latest highly-anticipated collaboration with sports company Under Armour.
This unexpected fusion takes Balenciaga’s signature edge and merges it with Under Armour’s athletic looks in ways that will appease those who value luxury athleisure wear. However, don’t expect to pay standard Under Armour prices. With the collection’s prices ranging from $150 for socks to an eye-popping $3,750 for the posh hoodie bag, it’s apparent that this line is no typical workout gear.
As the collection’s standout, the Under Armour Hoodie Bag imaginatively reinvents a zip-up hoodie into a shoulder bag and showcases both brands’ logos. Other pieces, such as the layered track pants and cycling bodysuits, cleverly create layered looks that are actually single garments, emphasizing Balenciaga’s flair for avant-garde style tricks.
Even the footwear lineup dons exclusivity, offering co-branded iterations of the iconic Balenciaga Runner and Hyper Sneaker, while chunky jewelry pieces, including heavy chokers, hoops, and stud earrings with Under Armour-inspired turn-lock clasps, add further depth to the collection. This line is likely a dream for fans of designer goods with a sporty twist. Still, the concept of dropping $1,150 on fleece shorts or $1,290 on sweatpants might not be in the cards for the typical consumer. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see how Balenciaga’s Under Armour pieces sell in the current retail climate, especially considering that other luxury brands, such as Gucci, have reported steep declines in sales.
