Earlier this week, Hip Hop superstar Drake leaked two songs and corresponding videos, reigniting anticipation for a forthcoming album.
In the first song, ‘Chicago Freestyle,’ Drake interpolates Eminem’s ‘Superman,’ reflects on his mistakes and unpacks his anxieties, which he attributed to his celebrity status and lifestyle. In the second, ‘When to Say When,’ Drake samples Jay-Z’s ‘Song Cry’ and even filmed the video in front of Hov’s home at Marcy Projects.
The song serves as a heart-to-heart, in fact, in a previous interview with Rap Radar, Drake revealed that it’s just one of those songs where “I’m just giving those life talks.”
During the song, he also name-dropped a few celebs, including Michael Rubin, who opened up about the honor in an interview with Baller Alert.
“I keep finding myself in songs, it’s always nice when people call you out,” Rubin explained. “It was great when Meek did it, it was awesome when Drake did it, it’s always nice.”
“Drake and I have been out gambling several times, he’s one of my boys. He’s the best, we’ve been out several times,” Rubin said. “We’ve had a couple good runs, he’s had some great runs too, by the way. I’ve seen Drake turn it up in roulette. He’s a beast.”
As he continued, he opened up about his million dollar win that Drake highlighted on the song, saying, “You gotta leave when you win. Winning a few good hands is not that hard, leaving the casino is always the trick.”
Elsewhere, he spoke about trash talking Drake and more.
