Jay Z has name-dropped Emory Jones several times in the past, most recently on his latest album “4:44”. In “Bam” Hov paid respect to Emory when he said, “We still movin’ like y’all niggas say y’all did /Emory passed you niggas and he did a bid.”
Prior to that, Jay Z also referenced Emory in Pusha T track, “Drug Dealers Anonymous.”
“Ask the Federalis ‘bout me / Tried to build a cell around me / Snatched my nigga Emory up / Tried to get him to tell about me / He told 12, “Gimme 12” / He told them to go to hell about me”
Emory and Jay Z have been close since long before the music. However, a 16-year prison sentence for cocaine trafficking snatched Emory away during an integral time in Jay’s rap career. 37 months were shaved off Emory’s sentence when Jay reached out to the judge, informing him of a $50,000 job offer for Emory Jones to work as an executive assistant at Rocawear.
Fast forward to 2017, Emory Jones has a fantastic job at Roc Nation, collaborated with Puma on his “Bet On Yourself” capsule collection and has a wealth of knowledge to share. Check out our interview with Emory earlier this year and take in all of the gems he drops!
