It’s that time again, another Baller Alert and Vibe Magazine collab and this time we’re going in on some of your favorite artists turned reality stars. Doesn’t matter if it was a dating show or a Survivor series, we got it all covered!
Artist: DMX
Show: Soul Of A Man
Around the time DMX was battling demons and addiction, he was one of the first artists to get hip to the Reality TV fad. This wasn’t a show looking for love and you didn’t put 10 strangers in a house for a competition to win some crazy prize. This was the true reality of a really dark man. Well, thats what wikipedia tells me anyway because frankly, I didn’t watch the show *shrugs*
Artist: Ray J
Show: For The Love Of Ray J
Who knew Ray J was looking for love, better yet who knew he was having trouble finding it. Before he was playing piano in Floyd Mayweather’s living room the “Sexy Can I” diligently gave away champagne flute after champagne flute of Freaky Mascato in search of his one special soul mate. Did he find her? No, but he DOES have 7 Rolls Royce’s parked outside right now though.
Artist: Toni Braxton
Show: Braxton Family Values
You ever wonder what Toni Braxton and her sister’s have been up to lately? No? Well it doesn’t matter because Toni and the Braxton quartet teamed up with the Oxygen network to give fans a show full of lace front wigs and .com drama. They laughed, they cried, they sang, they yelled at Tamar and most of all they entertained. It was such a success amongst middle aged black women that it’s been picked up for a second season. Someone has certainly unbroken my heart!
Artist: Vybz Kartel
Show: Teacha’s Pet
Well, before his little legal situation (See: Arrest for murder) dancehall star and cake soap advocate Vybz Kartel was shooting his very own reality dating show. Think of Flavor of Love meets Kingston, Jamaica and that’s what viewers could expect to see with Teacha’s Pet. 8 thirsty women (and a random white girl) were forced to live in a 3 bedroom apartment as they fight for the love of Kartel. Unfortunately whoever wins the show now, will have to put money on his books. Free Vybz!
Artist: Jim Jones
Show: Love & Hip Hop
Ok, this wasn’t quite Jimmy’s show but we can’t act like he wasn’t the star! Ok, we can’t really say that he was the star per se, but his mother and girlfriend were! Some may or may not know that the show was originally supposed to be based off of Jim and his boo but was changed after Jim didn’t want all eyes on him. Too late! After the public got a good look into his non-traditional relationship we were hooked!
