Sprinkled in between the people with common sense, social media is full of people who troll for attention, are misinformed, or have a low self esteem. We see them every day. I’ve taken the opportunity to begin a list of silly social media logic I’ve come across on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Read through my 8 points below and feel free to add your own.
1. If I Saw It On A Meme, It Must Be True – I don’t know if you know this but ANYONE can create a meme, post it on social media, have it reposted and it circulate for years and years to come. It doesn’t mean that it is true. Just because it’s on the internet, doesn’t make it true. We’ve got to get into the habit of actually doing our own research. A lot of times you’ll find that if you took the two-seconds necessary to look it up, you’d see a lot of these “facts” on social media aren’t facts at all.
2. If I “Who Cares”, I Really Don’t Care – Newsflash, if you say “who cares?” you actually are showing that you care. You know what I do when a song I don’t care about comes on the radio? I change the station. What about when you’re talking about something I don’t care about? I talk about something else. I do not spend even a tenth of a second discussing, commenting on, or even acknowledging something I don’t care about. If you comment, you’re showing that you care, even if it’s a little. To “acknowledge” something doesn’t mean you like it. Don’t be confused. Just remember the next time you truly don’t care, scroll past it.
3. If A Celeb Replies To Me or Blocks Me, I Must’ve Really Gotten Under Their Skin – Celebs are human and they react the way humans do, but don’t think for one second that when they put their phone down that they are thinking about you. If they block you, that’s not a sign of weakness. That’s a sign of no longer giving you the power to annoy them for that millisecond. Don’t think that highly of yourself simply because you were able to get a person to react. That actually says more about you and your values than it does them. Stop being weird. In fact, some people genuinely deserve the blocks they get. “So and So blocked me for saying their mother has no edges and should get AIDS,” yeah…that’s a blockable offense.
4. Everyone Is Rich – Don’t be fooled by what people allow you to see of their lives online. Don’t assume that because you always see someone on a trip or wearing what appears to be expensive clothes, that they are rich. People allow you to see what they want you to see and 9 times out of 10 they don’t want you to see the bad, the mistakes, and the trials they have to deal with daily.
5. If They Take A Picture, They Must Be Dating – Guess what ladies and gentleman, just because two people of the opposite sex are photographed together, doesn’t mean they are sleeping with each other. People have been taking pictures with one another since the dawn of time. If you slept with everyone you’ve been photographed with, your sexual organs would literally detach from your body.
6. Everything Is A Distraction – The new thing over the last year or two has been to label everything as a distraction when it’s not following the narrative you want to speak about. If someone gets shot in Chicago, then there’s a building explosion in New York, someone will likely label the explosion as a government distraction from Chicago. I’m here to let you know that human beings are capable of caring about more than one cause at a time and if you’re that easily distracted, you may need to seek a doctor for the proper medication. I suggest Adderall.
7. Must Be Illuminati – The Illuminati is another thing social media has run with. No one can name one book on the subject that they physically went to a library and checked out. They have relied solely on Youtube videos by conspiracy theorists and memes made by the lesser educated, to get their knowledge on this secret society. For a secret society, so many people seem to be hip. Now every time you see a triangle, or someone with one eye, they’re automatically linked to illuminati. Or anyone who sees any success in their career is automatically linked to illuminati. God forbid they actually worked for their success.
8. If I Create A New Account To Troll You, I’m Winning – There’s this weird thing that people on social media do. When you block them, they go through the entire process of creating another dummy account, just so they can come talk more mess on your page. Why is this? What do you think you have gained besides looking like an idiot with too much time on their hands? I can only imagine the thought process one goes through to do that. How mad they have to be while sitting there thinking of names and alternate email addresses for this account they’re going to troll you with, only to be blocked a second and maybe third time. Listen, harassing someone from a fake account you made SOLELY with the purpose of harassing them does not make you a winner. It in fact shows that the person you’re going through all this for is THAT important to you that you would invest unnecessary amounts of time on them. I couldn’t possibly ever find myself that bothered.
