15 years ago today, 50 Cent released his debut studio album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’’ on Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records and Universal Music Group.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Featuring production from two hip-hop heavy hitters, Dr. Dre and Eminem, the album was a well-developed body of work that encompassed the street style that is 50 Cent.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Through his lyricism and New York swagger, the album marked the beginning of the legacy 50 would leave behind.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
The album debuted and peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, with over 872,000 copies sold in the 1st week. The album generated over 5 singles, two of them being #1 hits “In da Club” and “21 Questions”, along with the international hit “P.I.M.P.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’’ has sold over 8.4 million copies in the United States and was certified 6× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
The album earned 50 a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album. It also has been ranked #37 on Rolling Stone’s list of best albums of the 2000s.
