25 years ago today, rapper Dr. Dre released his critically acclaimed album, ‘The Chronic.’

⠀⠀
‘The Chronic’ was not only Dre’s first solo album after his split from the rap group, N.W.A.; it was also his first album on his record label, Death Row Records.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Though the album was Dre’s solo work, it coincidentally catapulted the career of another Death Row artist, #SnoopDogg, with their hit single’”Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.” Snoop used the album as a launch pad for his career.

⠀⠀
Upon its release, ‘The Chronic’ peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. The album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA, having sold over 5 Million copies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
‘The Chronic’ helped to classify Dre as one of the originators of the G-Funk sound that took over the West Coast’s gangsta rap scene. So it’s no surprise that it received five stars from Rolling Stone, an A+ from Entertainment Weekly, and named one of the top hip-hop albums by multiple publications.
