Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: Common and John Legend Released Theme Song to ‘Selma,’ “Glory”

On Dec. 11, 2014, rapper Common released the single, “Glory,” featuring John Legend. Written by Common, Legend, and Rhymefest, the single was the theme song of the 2014 film ‘Selma,’ which told the stories of the 1965 marches from Selma to Montgomery.
Despite the song being a part of a film soundtrack, it actually was quite successful on the charts, peaking at number 49 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The single also won a variety of awards including: “Best Original Song” at the 87th Academy Awards (2015), “Best Original Song” at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards (2015), “Best Collaboration” at the BET Awards (2015), and “Best Song Written for Visual Media” at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards (2016).
