On May 20, 1991, 27 years ago today, Dj Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince released their hit summer jam, “Summertime.” The song was the lead single from the dynamic duo’s fourth studio album, “Homebase.”

The song was a major hit for the Philly natives and has become the song that must be played for summer cookouts and events. When you hear “Summertime,” you know warm weather is approaching.

“Summertime” won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 1992 Grammy Awards. It spent a week at number #1 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart, as well as reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became the duo’s first single to enter the UK Singles Chart, peaking at #8.
