The album has since received a number of accolades for “its lyrical dexterity,” insight into the struggles of the ghetto and racial tensions. In fact, in 1998, The Source listed the album on The 100 Best Rap Albums of All Time and Rolling Stone deemed it one of The Essential Recordings of the 90s list in 1999.
