Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: Jadakiss Released “Why” 14 Years Ago

On July 13, 2004, 14 years ago today, #Jadakiss released the first single, “Why,” from his second solo album, “Kiss of Death.”

The song was a protest song that highlighted a slew of the nation’s headlines, from the mystery behind Biggie Smalls and Tupac, racism and sexism in Hollywood, to politics.

Produced by Havoc and released on on Ruff Ryders and Interscope, “Why” was one of the Jada’s most successful songs. The single peaked at No. 11 on Billboard Hot 11, No. 4 on Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs, No. 3 on Hot Rap Singles and 12 on Rhythmic Top 40, as it also served as a crossover track for the rapper.
