On September 13, 1996, 22 years ago today, Tupac Shakur died from his injuries after a drive-by shooting, just six days prior.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The shooting occurred on September 7th, around 11:15 p.m. in Las Vega, Nevada, at a red light, just hours after a massive brawl inside the MGM Grand hotel and casino.
Though the incident is still classified as a mystery, many have linked Orlando Anderson, a Crips gang member, from Compton, California, to the crime.
Just four months prior, Anderson and a group of Southside Crips robbed one of Suge Knight’s Blood gang associates, Travon “Tray” Lane. In retaliation, four months later in Vegas, Shakur confronted Anderson about the incident and punched him in the face, which erupted a massive brawl inside the hotel lobby.
The incident was caught on tape.
After the incident, Shakur and Knight headed to Club 662 to finish out their night. But on their way, a white, four-door Cadillac, occupied by Anderson, Duane “Keffy D” Davis, and two others, pulled up beside Knight’s right side of the car on East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, and fired several shots, striking Pac four times.
He died six days later. However, his life and legacy as one of the best rappers of all time will live on forever.
