Baller Alert’s Today In Hip Hop: “Paid In Full” Starring Wood Harris, Mekhi Phifer and Cam’ron Hit Theaters 16 Years Ago

On October 25, 2002, 16 years ago today, “Paid in Full” was released in theaters, distributed by Miramax FIlms. 

Directed by Charles Stone III and produced by Dame Dash, Jay Z, Brett Ratner, and more, the film is based on three homeboys from Harlem, who allow their professional criminal exploits to compromise their friendship. 

The film was written by Matthew Cirulnick and Thulani Davis, starring Wood Harris, Mekhi Phifer, and Cam’ron, who play Azie “AZ” Faison, Rich Porter and Alpo Martinez,  respectively. It received generally mixed reviews upon release, as it secured more than $3 million in the box office. But, eventually, the film gained a strong cult following, deemed a cult classic among African American audiences.
