Social media challenges took us by storm last year with #TheMannequinChallenge #TheLilSaintChallenge and a few more. 2017 on the other hand, didn’t let up on the takeover!
Here are Baller Alert’s Top 10 Social Media Challenges for 2017:
“Bow Wow” Challenge:
Unfortunately, things didn’t end well when Shad Moss, aka Bow Wow, decided to floss on the ‘gram in early May. After lying about getting onto his private jet, users hashtagged #BowWowChallenge along with posts of their fake lives of luxury. Talk about a “L” for 2017.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
“For the D” Challenge:
Brought to us by New Orleans rapper, GameOva, the #ForTheDChallenge took over the net! Our favorite celebs joined in, freestyling about what they’d do to get them some! Issa Rae, Regina Hall, Cardi B, Gabrielle Union, and Erykah Badu all laid a verse. Who was your favorite?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“No Effort” Challenge:
One of hip-hop’s newest artist, Tee Grizzley challenged us to spit a few bars to the beat of his song “No Effort.” Fans didn’t hesitate to do exactly that! #NoEffortChallenge was so hot it was the #freestyle50 challenge entry requirement. The winner received a single record deal with 300 Entertainment, $10,000 cash and the opportunity to open up for a 300 Entertainment artist during a tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Get Out” Challenge:
“Get Out” the movie caused a ton of controversy this year. Ironically, being nominated as a comedy in next year’s Grammy Awards, users mimicked famous scene (also one of the only funny scenes) of a brainwashed character running at full speed and changing direction at the last minute.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Lil Uzi Vert” Challenge:
Lil Uzi Vert, one of our favorite bad bihhs has been hitting us with his famous shoulder roll all year. The challenge though was given to us by NBA superstar, Brandon Armstrong. His video impersonating Lil Uzi’s shoulder shimmy went viral, giving birth to the #LilUziVertChallenge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Mayweather” Challenge:
Money Mayweather tried to get a challenge of his own going by posting a video of himself in front of his private jet featuring hashtag-#MayweatherChallenge. Instead of playing “big on big,” users uploaded posts hilariously reflecting how broke they were in comparison to Mayweather.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Unforgettable” Dance Challenge:
French Montana’s “Unforgettable” featuring Swae Lee did more than give French his first #1 on the Billboard charts. Montana used the hit to fuel a fundraiser to help build maternity centers in Uganda, with #UnforgettableDanceChallenge helping spread awareness for the cause.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Drive-By Dunk” Challenge:
“DRIVE-BY!,” *in my smokey and day day voice* but this time, with a twist. The #DriveByDunkChallenge started when Instagrammer, @t.currie uploaded a compilation video of himself pulling up to strangers’ driveways, getting out to dunk in their basketball hoops, and running back to his getaway car. Social media ate this challenge up with over 10,000 posts made, including NBA stars, James Harden and Anthony Davis. Even Bloomington, Minnesota’s own police department joined in!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Invisible Box” Challenge:
It started off as a high school cheerleader playing around, but it didn’t stop there. Ariel Olivar made us question the rules of gravity by posting a video of her tapping the air, placing one foot on top, and stepping over the space all in one motion, hence- the #InvisibleBoxChallenge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Hell” Challenge:
Looking for another way to get under your parent’s skin? #HellChallenge had you covered. Teens would ask their parents if the word “hell” was a cuss word, and continued their conversation using the word, despite their parents’ advice. Let’s just say, some parents weren’t having it!
What was your favorite challenge for 2017?
