Every individual who has air in their lungs has a past. Whether its one they’re proud of or something they shun, it at some point in time has shaped them into the individual they are today. Life is a lesson, it teaches us new things everyday.
Those people who live in the limelight are in positions that people would kill to be in. They have access to platforms & arenas that many of us would love to use, just for the sake of getting our voice heard. Santonio Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to let the media in on a secret during a media session for the upcoming Super Bowl which will take place Sunday.
He admitted that as a youth, he sold drugs. Knowing that many youth look up this star athlete, he took a risk in displaying that tidbit of information. Take a look below.
During Wednesday’s Super Bowl media session, Holmes admitted that, in addition to sports, he had another hobby for a short time: drug dealer.
He chose to make his surprising admission at the Super Bowl, knowing millions of impressionable youngsters will be closely following the game and its players. By revealing his secret, Holmes hopes he may persuade other at-risk youth to choose a path that leads to the athletic field and a classroom, not to a detention center or a jail cell.“I’ve only told three or four people about it,” Holmes said Wednesday. “I feel it’s time to share things. I’m on the biggest stage, everybody’s going to be watching. I’m pretty sure some kids can get a feel for changing their lives and not doing those type of things, and can get an opportunity to get out of the ghetto, the ‘hood, to be successful.”
I understand everyone wasn’t born with a silver spoon. I can’t knock someone else for what they do as a means of survival, however I’m sure there might have been other options he could have chosen. As mentioned, everyone has a past, some learn from it & become a better individual. Its pretty obvious Santonio made a change for the better. He’s one of the top wide receivers in the league going after the big chip.
