Celebs are raving about Vampire Facials (or platelet-rich-plasma fillers). Pictured above is model Bar Rafaeli. Kim Kardashian even had the procedure done on an episode of”Kourtney and Kim Take Miami”. So what is it?
While the name sounds scary, it’s really not that bad. It’s similar to getting botox or fillers, but the procedure uses your own blood plasma. The use of blood to keep one from aging is where the “vampire” name comes from. Technicians draw a vial of a patient’s blood, separate the red blood cells from plasma, then smeared into tiny acupuncture sized holes poked in the patient’s skin. Results last up to 6 months. Plasma contains a substance called “growth factors” that is supposed to activate and rejuvenate cells and since it’s your own blood, there’s very little risk of rejection, allergic reaction or infection.
The cost for this type of procedure starts at around $1,500. Check with your local cosmetic surgeon to see if they perform these procedures.
