The measure of a man isn’t judged by what he does in public, but what he does when no one is looking. Charity on any level is always respected and appreciated, but it’s those smaller moments when no one is watching that warms your heart even more. It’s the true realization that the thought of a person’s generosity being for show is just that- a thought; an unfounded thought at best.
#CarolinaPanthers quarterback #CamNewton is charitable man. His foundation fed nearly 1000 kids for Thanksgiving and he always has time for a kid that wants to hang out with him. His “servant’s heart” is remarkable. Last Wednesday before the Panthers took on the #BaltimoreRavens in Ravens’ country, Carolina had dinner at #Sullivans Steakhouse.
When the team left, Newton walked out with two individual meals (not leftovers) in which he distributed one of the bags to the homeless man holding the sign “Homeless please help hungry —food”. Danmon and Candace Gregory were enjoying a walk through Baltimore’s Inner Harbor when the pair caught the kind gesture.
Candace told ESPN.com, “People talk about him dabbing and all the stuff that in my mind ultimately should be irrelevant, because that doesn’t get to the heart of who he is. I once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice and people were like, ‘Oh, it’s a photo opportunity.’ But this was when nobody was looking. That’s why we shared it, because character is what you do when nobody is looking.”
“They were walking in a group and he slid over, gave the guy the bag and kept moving. It was a quick, smooth motion, like he was handing the ball off to a running back. He didn’t linger. He didn’t talk to the guy. You could tell he was trying to be discreet about it, ” Candace stated as she described the Newton’s noble action.
Candace told ESPN.com that people were amazed by Newton’s presence, but the homeless man was just grateful to get the food. “A lot of people were like, ‘Oh my God! That’s Cam Newton! The homeless guy had no idea who Cam was. He was just happy to have food. He was totally oblivious to everything.”
#JoeWebb, the back up QB for the Panthers states that Newton’s kinds gestures aren’t anything new. The dabbing QB plans outings so that he can help the homeless. “It’s second nature to him”, Webb noted.
It’s rather hard to not be an individual fan of Newton.
