Andre Johnson, is known for his charity work. Every year he gives back to the community, especially the kids, and although he does not play for the Houston Texans anymore, that did not stop him from making 12 kids’ Christmas one they will never forget.
“Houston will always be home,” Johnson tells Fox 2 in Houston. “I always said that if I’m in the position to help someone out, that’s what I’m going to do. To see them happy, makes me happy.”
Last week Johnson held his annual shopping spree for 2 children who were handpicked by caseworkers from child protective services in Houston. He gave them 80 seconds to grab whatever they wanted from Toys R Us and though he couldn’t personally be there (because he was in Indy with the Colts), he jumped on Skype to greet the kids. His mother attended the shopping spree on his behalf. The grand total for all gifts purchased came out to $18,030.25. Johnson and his mother said it was worth every penny.
Along with the toys the kids grabbed, Johnson gave each kid a an Xbox and two games.
“We didn’t have this growing up. Andre didn’t have this. Now that he does, we can’t help but give back. To know that they are smiling and will have a good Christmas means everything! As a mom, this is a proud moment,” said Andre’s mother, Karen Johnson.
