Even at one of his lowest points, Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette found a way to turn a negative into a positive. Earlier this month, Ricardo suffered a season-ending neck injury in a game against the Dallas Cowboys, which required him to get ligament surgery. TMZ reports that shortly after leaving the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Ricardo and his family spotted a large group of homeless people gathered on a sidewalk. Instead of driving past them like most people would have done, Ricardo decided to do something about it. He told the driver to go to a nearby McDonald’s, where he purchased 100 cheeseburgers, and he then went back to feed all the homeless people.
Ricardo’s father Earl spoke with TMZ and told them the details of his son’s good deed. “He had a neck brace on while he was passing out the burgers. Some people were like, ‘What happened to you?’ But Ricardo didn’t try and bring attention to who he was. Some people knew who he was. But this was more about Ricardo seeing people who were in worse shape than him and wanting to help them however he could. It was a beautiful thing. Through helping other people, he helped heal himself. It was therapeutic for everyone.”
What an amazing and humble act of kindness on his part. It definitely takes a special person to help those who are less fortunate when they themselves are going through a very unfortunate situation.
