DeVon Franklin is an engaged man! The producer, preacher, and best-selling author is engaged to celebrity trainer Maria Castillo after a romantic surprise proposal in Maui on December 27, 2024.
Franklin, 46, planned the picture-perfect moment while on a holiday vacation at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua. What Castillo, 29, thought was a sunset photo shoot turned out to be a life-changing moment when Franklin dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him.
“Finding Maria has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life, so I wanted the proposal to be as special as our love,” Franklin told PEOPLE. “It was truly a magical moment, and I can’t wait to spend a magical life with Maria!”
The stunning engagement, planned by Riley Canty of The Yes Girls, featured a scenic oceanfront backdrop, coordinated white outfits, and a custom diamond ring designed by Carlotta Sarenas. Castillo was left shocked and emotional, dropping to the ground in disbelief before Franklin slipped the ring on her finger.
“I’m still in awe of how it all happened! It was such a beautiful surprise, and I can’t even put into words how happy I am!” Castillo shared. “To know I’ll be spending the rest of my life with this incredible man is a dream come true. Here’s to forever with the love of my life!”
Franklin and Castillo met about a year ago through a mutual friend, trainer Mike Trusdale, who arranged a brunch for them, believing they’d be a perfect match. Since then, they’ve been inseparable, making their red carpet debut at The Pink Awards in October 2024, followed by an appearance at the Merge Awards Gala the following month.
