Art Basel/Miami Art Week 2022 just wrapped up, and aside from the art, thousands flocked to the Magic City for a week full of concerts, parties, pop-ups, brand events and more.  From private yacht events to exclusive performances, here are a few ballerific moments that took place during the annual event.

SoundCloud hosted its highly anticipated SoundCloud Next Wav event at Supercar Rooms Miami in Wynwood on Dec 1. The day-and-night event was the destination for music discovery, culture, and community featuring epic performances from J.I.D., Smino, Armani White, and KenTheMan. Hosted by Miami’s very own Norma Now with music and vibes from DJ Spinelli, the event’s daytime programming included panels with creatives and industry experts like Tre Trax, Jake Markow, Joe Kay, and more. Artists looking to level up their careers had access to free activations, including a SoundCloud Soundbooth presented by Denny’s and a portrait studio for professional photos with Miami photographer and creative director Derik G.

Prime Video presented a larger-than-life immersive art activation centered around Riches, entitled  “The Crown We Never Take Off,” a follow-up to the series’ first screening during this year’s CultureCon. The experience celebrated elements from the show that exhibited the freedom of expression and identity across the Black diasporic experience through several mediums, including photography, sculpture, painting, music, video, and performance art. Collaborating with curator Donnamarie Baptiste, guests in the exhibit saw various art forms from artists like Marryam Noma, Carlos Idun-Tawiah, Tammie Knight, and Morel Doucet. The exhibition also offered attendees various photo moments like an editorial-style photo op that places guests as the ‘Face of Flair & Glory,’ a highly coveted honor within the series, as well as a DJ, performance, libations, and passed trays.

The metaverse also took the forefront during this year’s events. In partnership with SpringHill, Meta House took over Miami’s Soho Pool House and Sacred Space in Wynwood Arts District to curate a first-of-its-kind mixed reality playground made with artists advancing the next generation of creativity. The three-day experience hosted over 3,000 guests and featured performances by Doja Cat, GloRilla, TOKiMONSTA, and Elena Rose, with DJ sets by Coco and Breezy, Kitty Cash, and more. Interactive AR murals and structures by mixed-reality artists COVL, Morel, and Nina Chanel, were also featured while YONK led VR building workshops. The space also featured an inflatable sculpture garden by Milkman and work displayed throughout by artist Dapper Lou. Alongside SpringHill, Meta also co-hosted the ‘#MakeItTillYouMakeIt’ gallery – a curated, fine art showcase that also held panel discussions moderated by CultureCon & The Creative Collective NYC Founder Imani Ellis.
