Balenciaga is preparing for Valentine’s Day with a sweet line curated for the lovers. However, be ready to spend big bucks if you wish to get matching pieces for you and your special someone.
On Thursday, the luxury fashion house released its Valentine Series, featuring worn tees and hoodies with faux lipstick marks and scrawled messages. The $595 t-shirt is riddled with holes, while a $1,190 zip-up hoodie sports distressed seams and ragged hems.
Both pieces, available in “dirty white” or “super faded washed black,” display the phrase “Happy Valentine’s” in a lipstick-like script, alongside a back poem: “Roses are red, violets are blue, I will forever be thankful for you.”
Balenciaga describes the line as “evoking the heartfelt gesture of personalizing a gift.” Yet, online critics weren’t immediately impressed, declaring the items as “boring” and even a bit lazy. Nevertheless, the company is no stranger to controversial creations. In recent weeks, the “Barefoot Zero” shoes have made headlines. The barely there flat is designed to feel as if buyers aren’t wearing shoes at all. Additionally, the brand raised eyebrows in the past with its potato chip bag purse and trash bag, which was priced at $2,100.
Balenciaga’s risky Valentine’s line certainly isn’t for everyone but for the fashionable couples of the world, this latest release is perfect.
