Retro styles are popular right now, and Reebok is seizing its opportunity by bringing back one of its most popular seminal styles; Allen Iverson’s IV “OG” sneakers.
According to Input Mag, the shoe company announced that it would be re-releasing the Iverson’s sneakers that the company first debuted during the guard’s historic 2000-2001 MVP campaign.
The shoes are scheduled to arrive just in time for their 20th anniversary and feature a cool silhouette and a racing-inspired upper, the outlet reports.
Before Allen’s fifth season, Reebok introduced a brand new sneaker that perfectly answered the needs of Iverson’s on-court energy and defiant off-court style. The sneaker is considered “the crown jewel of Iverson’s journey and the cultural shift he helped to lead,” Xavier Jones, Reebok’s footwear designer, stated during a press release.
“By his ‘00-’01 season, ‘Chuck’ was already so beloved for his style and how he approached the game, but that year truly cemented A.I. as a cultural icon. Answer IV became a symbol for the new era of modern athletes and a celebration of self-expression on his feet. It is without a doubt one of the most iconic sneakers to ever grace the hardwood.”
The retro shoes will have many features, including a zip-up shroud and a wave-like upper. The sneakers are said to stand out from others with their white and bright red color blocking, which is similar to what the icon wore when he originally made the sneakers famous.
The sneakers will also be engraved with the “Only The Strong Survive” tagline. They will also have a Velcro strap for more security, a feature added by the shoe company after Iverson pointed out the zipper came undone by itself while playing.
The shoe’s silhouette was not only crafted by the company; Iverson also gave his input to perfect it. If you’re interested in getting a pair, they will cost you $130 retail price and will hit the shelves on April 15.
