Within the music industry, the Grammy Award is the highest achievement any artist can receive, but sadly, not every deserving artist has received one.
Some of the most prominent musicians, such as Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, have been heavily recognized by the Recording Academy, with her racking up 32 awards. Her husband, Jay-Z, has secured 24, joining a long list of music makers who have won over 20 gold trophies. This includes Quincy Jones, who won 28; Stevie Wonder, who won 25; and Kanye West, who won 24. While there are many artists and producers who have gotten their just due, many have never won this accolade despite having multiple nominations.
Several factors go into which artists are presented with Grammys. The Recording Academy is the deciding agency for nominations and winners. The members are composed of musicians, producers, engineers, and other music professionals tasked with weighing commercial success and artistic merit. Despite the Recording Academy’s voting metrics, which have been criticized by many in the past, including winner Jay-Z, numerous artists who have achieved international superstardom and released megahits have still not been granted this honor.
Here’s a list of a few artists who are long overdue for their golden trophy.
