Today’s New Music Friday is quite special, as it is being dominated by fiercely talented women in hip-hop.
Friday, June 28th marked a string of highly anticipated releases starting with Megan Thee Stallion, who unveiled her self-titled album. The project is her first as an independent artist. In addition to her previously released singles, “Cobra,” “Hiss” and “Boa,” the 18-track project sports guests appearances from GloRilla, Kyle Richh, UGK, Victoria Monet, Big K.R.I.T. and Japanese artist, Yuki Chiba. Meg, who is currently on tour, gets an opportunity to perform her newest tracks while on the road with Glo.
Elsewhere in the south, Latto unveiled her latest single, which has been bubbling on social media. The Georgia MC has been teasing the melodic “Big Mama” for several days. However, upon its release, fans were met with Latto beginning the track singing and ending it with surprise bars in the second half of the track.
JT also delivered a new rendition of her single, “Okay,” which brings along none other than Jeezy. Many fans drew comparisons to the Snowman since the record was originally unveiled two months ago. Taking note of this, billboards featuring a glass slipper and snowman began popping up around Atlanta ahead of the single. Jeezy stuns on the remix, going back to his “Trap or Die” roots, satisfying his longtime supporters, while appealing to the “Juvies,” JT’s loyal fans are known as.
Needless to say, this New Music Friday is jam-packed with much to choose from, with even LSU star Flau’Jae Johnson releasing her debut mixtape, “Best of Both Worlds,” which features a guest feature from Lil Wayne.
