New Music Friday is here with a star-studded lineup, with one of Hollywood’s finest stepping back into the booth.
Will Smith has returned with his first album since 2005’s “Lost and Found.” On March 28th, Smith unveiled his highly anticipated project, “Based on a True Story.” While many people know him for his Blockbuster films such as “Hitch” and “I Am Legend,” day one fans are privy to his Grammy Award-winning rap career, which spawned classics such as “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” “Based on a True Story” finds Smith reunited with longtime collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff as well as Teyana Taylor, Russ, and his son, Jaden. Back in his hip-hop form, Smith is delivering bars straight from the 90s with a new twist that his younger audience can appreciate.
Another album that fans online are raving about is Lil Durk’s, “Deep Thoughts.” This project arrives at a pivotal time for the Chicago star, who is facing serious charges in connection to the shooting that left Quando Rondo’s cousin killed. Still, Durk remains dedicated to his career, having delivered the first single, “Can’t Hide It,” just days ago with vocals from Jhene Aiko. In a transparent Instagram post, Durk admitted that he was hesitant to release his album amid his legal troubles.
“I wasn’t gon put this out but then I remembered the streets need this. Not being outside with y’all when I drop is hard, but I know I Will feel y’all love and energy through these walls. Thank y’all for rocking with me through everything,” he wrote.
