Ballerific Relationships: Should A Man Be Responsible For Buying Food For His Date’s Child On A First Date

In a clip for the latest episode of “The Gemini Scorpio Podcast,” the panel discusses whether or not a man should pay to feed his date’s child before their first date.

In the now-viral video clip, Jasmine Grenaway recalls the moment she realized her date was not the man for her after he refused to pay for her daughter’s happy meal, “once I saw that I knew he wasn’t getting any……” Grenaway declared.

While the male panelists thought Ms. Grenaway’s expectation was out of line, they failed to understand it wasn’t about her date spending money- it was about the principle.

The debate got us to thinking should a man be responsible for paying for his date’s child to eat before their first date?

While we can all agree that first dates are always about making the best “first” impression- a man isn’t responsible for paying for his date’s child to eat. Let’s be clear that responsibility is solely on the parent of said child.

But let’s also be honest; women will tell you-the guy who pays for the child to eat will always fare better in the long run. That generous gesture will take him farther and is definitely more attractive to his potential date.

Generosity is always an attractive character trait. It gives off the appearance of a man who is thoughtful, kind, and empathetic. A gentleman. While most guys may not admit it to their bros, most would pay for the happy meal if the date is a woman they really like or really want to get to know.

Most single parents who are trying to date will tell you- a potential suitor who shows concern and/or interest in their children will definitely score extra points.

The key to dating at any level is to look for examples of good character at all times. How your date treats the server. Do they show up on time, open doors for you? Do they put forth effort in scheduling and planning the date? The more intentional their actions, the better.

Chivalry is very attractive; a true gentleman would pay, but it’s not his “responsibility.”

Sure, Jasmine could pay for her kid’s happy meal, but it isn’t really about that- it’s about the principle. And the fact that the dude didn’t offer or refused to pay had to be a turnoff.

But on the other hand, women have to be mindful that men are evaluating us too on the first date. From his point of view, they haven’t even had the “first date,” and she’s already expecting him to feed her children?

So to answer the question, NO a man isn’t responsible to pay for dinner for his date’s child. But ladies, please know- if you are ever in a situation like Jasmine described and the guy does pay-you’re in the presence of a gentleman- make sure you appreciate him as such.

Y’all be safe tho.
