Meeting your girlfriend’s parents for the first time can be nerve-wracking.  You might worry about what they will think of you and how it will affect their daughter’s opinion of you.  However, it’s important to remember that your girlfriend chose you for a reason and her parents will appreciate the qualities she sees in you.  Here are some steps to make a good impression when meeting her parents.

Dress appropriately for the occasion.  Avoid overdressing or underdressing.  For example, shorts are acceptable for a family barbecue, but a dress shirt and slacks are more appropriate for dinner.

Bring a thoughtful gift, such as a bouquet of lilies and a bottle of good wine.  This will show that you’re considerate and appreciate the invitation.
