Houston Texans RB, Arian Foster, may possibly be out part of the season. Reports say the veteran running back has suffered a groin injury. Although the Texans organization has yet to confirm the severity of Foster’s injuries and the rehabilitation plan, surgery is very much a possibility. Suffering the injury on a pass play at Monday evening’s practice, LSU alum, Alfred Blue took some of Foster’s reps.
With the season opener right around the corner, this isn’t the news the Texans want to hear right now. The team took a lost with the departure of Andre Johnson, so there is some type of deficit in the receiving core. Their veteran safety and pro-bowler Danieal Manning recently retired, they released DJ Swearinger, and now Foster will more than likely be out through the bye-week. The veteran leadership is depreciating. Couple that with Clowney still on the in-active list, the fight for the QB position and rookie LB, Reshard Cliett’s season-ending knee injury; the Texans may just have a “hard knock” season after all. On the brighter side of things, the Texans do have some type of depth with the rushing game. Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes are going to more than likely fill the temporary hole, but the Texans also have Chris Polk and Ray Graham. There are also rumors swirling that the Texans will dip into the Free Agency pool. Free Agent Pierre Thomas is rumored to be working out with the Texans on Wednesday. Then you have Ray Rice who hasn’t been with a team since his debacle last season, but is still a solid RB. It’s just the beginning of camp and the cuts haven’t been made so who will really fill those shoes in regular season is up in the air.
Since 2012, Foster has suffered back, groin and hamstring injuries. However the beasty RB managed to take 1,246 yards rushing last season despite being injured. The Texans’ soon leave for their joint practices with the Washington Redskins.
Hopefully Foster has a speedy recovery.
