The previously undefeated Patriots were handed their first loss of the season on Sunday night in Denver. In a thrilling AFC battle, the Broncos overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead with less than two minutes left in the game. The Patriots had dominated throughout the whole night but backup quarterback Brock Osweiler was able to connect with wide receiver Andre Caldwell with 1:09 left on the clock to take their first lead of the game. Then, Tom Brady led the Patriots down the field and with 4 seconds left in the game, they kicked a field goal to tie it up and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Patriots got the ball first but the Broncos defense forced a quick three-and-out and gave the ball back to Osweiler. On 3rd and 1, Osweiler set up a toss to running back CJ Anderson, who escaped a number of defenders and ran into the end zone to shock the Patriots and win the game.
Sunday night marked the 17th game in the Tom Brady-Peyton Manning rivalry series, with Brady winning 11 of those matchups. Manning was out on Sunday night due to a foot injury but Osweiler managed to get the job done in his place and pull out a big win on a snowy night in Denver.
And then there was one…with the Patriots’ loss Sunday night, the Carolina Panthers remain the lone undefeated team in the NFL. With the end of the regular season getting close, who do you see going to the Super Bowl this year?
