The St. Louis Rams have released openly gay defensive end Michael Sam on Saturday, the team announced. Head Coach Jeff Fisher states “I believe he can play in this league.”  Michael Sam was set to make history as he attempted to become the first openly gay player in NFL history. He has made history by being the first openly gay player drafted in NFL history. Sam faced an uphill battle to make the roster because the St. Louis Rams were already stacked with defensive ends. He had a great pre-season, he recorded three sacks and six tackles. Those are impressive numbers, for the rookie. Sam might not have been a great fit for the Rams numbers wise but it doesn’t mean he can’t be serviceable for another team.  He can be claimed off of waivers and sign for any other team. Sam has at least proven himself to be a fan favorite he had the seventh-best selling jersey on NFLShop.com, the league’s official store, from April 1 through July 31.
Just because I am not his type, doesn’t mean I don’t wish him well.
