Since 1956, New York has been home to the NFL draft. Last year, in a surprising move, Chicago was given the draft. Chicago will host it again this year, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, has plans on moving the draft to another city in 2017. NFL Insider , Adam Schefter, broke Goodell’s ideas via twitter Wednesday afternoon.
As of now, Philly has emerged as the leader in host cities for 2017 with Los Angeles closely behind. Atlanta and Denver were among the rumored cities, but no confirmation as to which cities have been chosen was given.
Moving the draft to various cities would give each city a piece of history and possibly additional revenue. While it isn’t guaranteed that an economic surplus will occur for the cities directly from the draft, it could possibly have a trickle down effect. When individuals relocate, they look at the cost of living, stability, potential growth and entertainment. Potentially having the draft or other major sporting events is always a selling point for entertainment.
What cities would you like to see the NFL Draft visit? I definitely would love to see what Miami or Houston hits like.
