When the Arizona Cardinals released defensive lineman, Darnell Dockett, after a season ending torn ACL, the 49ers signed the 34-year old vet as a pass-rusher in the Niner’s defense. Dockett, who dedicated ten seasons to the Cardinals organization, was scooped by the 49ers for a $7.5 million, two-year deal with $2 million guaranteed. Six months after the Dockett – Niner marriage, the organization has opted to divorce Dockett freeing the salary cap space thus saving approximately $3.25 million.
While the true reason(s) for the dissolution of the union are unknown, it is speculated that the unexpected release is directly related to Dockett’s rib injury. There is a possibility that Dockett’s tweet stating he had a broken rib might have stepped on a few toes. Dockett does have a rib injury, but it is the cartilage and not the bone, according to Tomsula.
Having 40.5 career sacks and the voracious appetite, Dockett will be a great addition to any team. Being calculated and relentless are viable characteristics needed in any good defender.
I know a few teams that desperately need his talent.
