The 2016 NFL season is about 156 days away. Lucky for us, we will never have to miss a Thursday Night game again. Twitter won the digital streaming rights for NFL Thursday night games, according to ESPN. The deal will allow fans to experience the game and their twitter feed on the same screen.
Twitter’s investment in sports doesn’t come as a surprise. The company has been pressured by investors to boost revenue, since it’s advertising cash flow has diminished compared to Facebook and Instagram. The platform has had great success as a fan’s accompaniment to live games, according to ESPN.
This news comes following the Villanova Victory with the most unforgettable buzzer-beater in history of college basketball. Everyone watched and refreshed their timeline to see the endless Michael Jordan crying face meme’s on every single North Carolina affiliate, including Michael Jordan himself.
“Twitter is the live media platform of the Internet, and sports makes up approximately 50 percent of all conversation on Twitter,” said Jason Stein, CEO of Laundry Services, a social media-marketing firm. “By distributing this live content, which fuels conversation and engagement on the platform, Twitter is adding great value to users and very exciting advertising opportunities.”
Twitter will be the third destination for a fan to see a Thursday night game.
