In a perfect world, people of color would be presented the same opportunities as their white counterparts. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect, however, there are people, more specifically women, who have dedicated their time, money and education to make a positive change. They’ve used their experiences and their encounters with injustices to fight and/or create more opportunities for their children and their children’s children, in an effort to make the world a better place. This is #BlackExcellence. These are #BallerificWomen.

One of those special individuals is Lisa Price, Author, Business Owner, & Creator of Carol’s Daughter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She is best known for her line of beauty products called, Carol’s Daughter, named in homage of her mother, which features completely organic hair, body, and face care, and also fragrances.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ms. Price began working on her beauty products in the 80’s as she was working on the set of, “The Cosby Show.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She continued to play with her products and experiment with different recipes in her kitchen, and eventually, word got around of her unique blends and she started to place orders via mail and local flea markets in 1993.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What made Carol’s Daughter a true hot commodity was that she was the only natural hair care line that sold it’s products directly to its customers rather than through wholesalers and department stores.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The success of her mail-orders eventually launched the official first ever, “Carol’s Daughter,” store in Brooklyn, and an online store as well. Shortly after, she opened a second store in Harlem.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With the help of major investors, Carol’s Daughter, was able to raise $10 million in just a few short years. Some notable contributors included Steve Stoute, Jada Pickett and Will Smith, Mary J. Blige, Solange Knowles, and Jay-Z.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Her success has gotten her a guest appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, her products sold at Target, and her most prized personal accomplishment —landing a distribution deal with L’Oreal.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now Carol’s Daughter is sold across the nation in over 30 thousand retail stores.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ms. Price talks about her success in her first book titled, “Success Never Smelled So Sweet.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a pioneer of natural hair care products, Ms. Lisa Price and Carol’s Daughter made history by being one of the first to have its products exhibited in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture!
