Baltimore Mayor To Implement Summer Curfew For Minors After Two Teens Were Shot

The Mayor of Baltimore has implemented a summer curfew after two teens were shot while officers attempted to break up a group of minors.

According to WBAL-TV, over 200 teens had congregated in the city’s Inner Harbor neighborhood around 9 p.m. on Sunday, where police attempted to break up the group when a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were shot and injured.

WBAL stated that one of the victims was in critical condition while the other one was stable.

According to police, two suspects were detained: one was found with a loaded gun in a police garage and the other had a loaded gun that matched the shooter’s description.

Following the incident, Baltimore’s mayor, Brandon Scott, said that for the upcoming summer months, a curfew of 9 p.m. for those under the age of 14 and 10 p.m. for those under the age of 17 would be in effect.

“I want everyone to hear me and hear me clearly,” Scott said. “We are going back to the old days. We will be enforcing a youth curfew as we move into the later spring and summer months.”

“It’s not just about making sure we are getting them off the street, but making sure that we are supporting them and figuring out what’s going on with them and their families,” Scott said. “It is not normal for person to be that far away from their home and no one knows where they are or cares for them.”
