For the better part of the NFL season, players from several different teams have stood in solidarity against police brutality and racial injustices. While some players have chosen to stand, others have raised their fists, taken a knee or even taken a seat during the national anthem. A few players have also chosen to forgo the anthem all together to show their support for the movement or their disdain towards the injustices in America.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, many misinformed Americans have chosen to ignore the purpose of the protest and focus on the alleged consequence. From Donald Trump condemning and criticizing the players for their stand against racial injustices to Papa John’s CEO blaming the protests on falling sales, it appears Baltimore Ravens president, Dick Cass, has a similar position on the topic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to reports, Cass signed and sent out a letter to season-ticket holders this week to address his concern about the recent “no-shows” at games. He then went on to blame the “noticeable” lack of attendance on the protests.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“There are a number of reasons for the no-shows, but surely the one-time protest in London has been a factor,” the letter reads, referencing the instance when players took a knee the week after Trump called for the players to be fired for the protests.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We have responded to your concerns about the protest by re-doubling the efforts of both the organization and our players to make the Baltimore area a better community,” he continued. “When the Ravens win, we can bring families and the community together. We’ve done that before, and we can do it again.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“In light of recent events, we are also reminded that winning alone is not always enough to make the Ravens the unifying force we want to be,” Cass continued, “We don’t take your support for granted, and we know that we must continue to earn your respect and investment in us.”
