Navigating summer as a single person can get a bit tricky, but it also has its perks.Â
For some, the season is filled with summer romance, which allows significant others to enjoy pool parties, festivals, and day parties together. For those flying solo, there may be much more independence in the heated months.  This is certainly not a negative thing and can lead to a journey of self-discovery and even tackling a few adventures.Â
Clinical psychologist and researcher Dr. Cortney S. Warren spoke with Bustle in 2017 about the rewards of being unpartnered during the hotter months, which are commonly associated with outdoor events and leisure time.Â
“Recognize that you have the ultimate freedom to enjoy your life at a time when the weather is fantastic. So take advantage and do what you want to do! Do what matters most to you,” Dr. Warren stated, adding, “Your schedule is your own. So do what makes you the most fulfilled.”
These quests can include something as drastic as a trip to Bali for a bit of temple touring or treating yourself to brunch each weekend. For music lovers looking to fellowship with others, attending music festivals, such as Essence Fest, is also a great way to meet new people while taking in the sounds of today’s biggest acts. Â
Being single does not necessarily mean you must be isolated. Connecting with your close-knit circle can offer fellowship. Though a significant other may not be in your future, spending time with loved ones can help fill that void. Even for those who live in different places, summer might provide the perfect opportunity to book a flight and pay them a visit.Â
Embracing your unattached status may be difficult, especially if you’re fresh off a breakup and longing for companionship. However, summer offers an opportunity for a liberation similar to that preached in Trina’s “Single Again.”
