During the wee hours of the morning, Bellator CEO, Bjorn Rebney issued a statement to BleacherReport.com
“I agree with those who found Jon’s earlier statement to be offensive and inappropriate. And, while his public apology (“I tweeted something earlier that was stupid, insensitive and wrong. Rape is never something to joke about ever. I sincerely apologize”) surely does not excuse his statement, it does evidence his recognition of the seriousness of the situation and his realization that what he said was offensive, ignorant and hurtful,” Rebney said via email on Saturday night. “Since the day I entered this business, I’ve believed that my job was to treat our fighters like human beings and not like property. Human beings make mistakes and sometimes say stupid things.
“I’m surely prepared to take action in warranted situations as evidenced by recent promotional contracts we have terminated with well-known, popular fighters who have committed assault and/or who have broken the law. But, in this situation, I remain hopeful that Jon will learn from his mistake, redeem himself and become a better man for it and I would like to give him that chance.”
*side EYE* Okay, let’s break this down shall we? Before this halfas**d apology, War Machine called us idiots who didn’t read and the “real men rape” tweet was taken out of context and then he made sure to call us sensitive a** b***es. Followed by ANOTHER onslaught of derogatory curse words and then claimed we’re twisting his words and made sure to tell us to #DIESLOW
All went quiet for two hours on War Machine’s twitter and then he issued that halfas*** apology. “I tweeted something earlier that was stupid, insensitive and wrong. Rape is never something to joke about ever. I sincerely apologize. *eye friggin’ roll* Okay BRO.
Mind you those derogatory tweets where he cursed everyone out are STILL up on his twitter page ALONG with the tweet that he just RAPED Christy Mack.
We don’t believe you Jonathan, you need more people.
Back to Mr. Rebney’s statement, (I did reach out to him several times, but to no avail.) “…And, while his public apology surely does not excuse his statement, it does evidence his recognition of the seriousness of the situation and his realization that what he said was offensive, ignorant and hurtful.” Pray tell Bjorn, WHEN did this revelation come to him? When you read him the riot act OR????? Inquiring minds want to know.
“…in this situation, I remain hopeful that Jon will learn from his mistake, redeem himself and become a better man for it and I would like to give him that chance.” Sooo basically you’re telling us Bjorn Rebney that it’s cool if Jonathan tweets recklessly because all he’ll receive is a slap on the wrist, right?
The NBA and NFL hold their players to a higher standard and if ANYTHING inflammatory is tweeted by their players, they get fined and reprimanded with a suspension or whatever. How many incidents have we seen where the players have called their followers f****ts? TONS and they got in trouble as well.
I’m not understanding, Bjorn, BellatorMMA, Viacom and SpikeTV, how War Machine just has to release an apology on twitter and all is well with the world. No, it isn’t, “Real Men Rape.” and his other tweets cursing followers out for calling him on his sh** does NOT an apology make! War Machine needs to be held accountable for those ignorant tweets of his. Fine Jonathan and have that money go to the rape crisis center or a local facility which houses abused women and children…AND volunteer at one of these places.
THAT, Bjorn Rebney, BellatorMMA, Viacom and SpikeTV, should be HOW War Machine’s “Real Men Rape” tweets be accountable along with a BETTER apology statement.
DO something about it! Bjorn, BellatorMMA, Viacom and SpikeTV my email is STILL open to discuss alternative methods on how War Machine’s ignorant tweets to be handled.
