Bernice King got a little bit of straightening with Amy Schumer, who posted a video of King’s father denouncing antisemitism and speaking in support of Israel.
Monday night, the comedian shared an archival clip of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to slamming antisemitism, King Jr. also defended Israel’s right to exist. Many people dragged Schumer over the post, causing her to limit who could interact with the tweet. One user wrote, “It makes me angry how often white people will use MLK and his teachings to solidify their supremacy and or fit their narrative. These are the people we need to cancel.”
His daughter, Bernice, also joined the chat with her own two cents. She has been using her platform to support a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. While she was not opposed to what her father said in the video shared by Schumer, she maintained that he would support peace overall.
“Amy: Certainly, my father was against antisemitism, as am I. He also believed militarism (along with racism and poverty) to be among the interconnected Triple Evils. I am certain he would call for Israel’s bombing of Palestinians to cease, for hostages to be released,” she wrote on Twitter.

Schumer didn’t respond to Bernice directly, but she did address the backlash in an Instagram post. She stated, “I want safety for Jewish people and Muslims as well. Everyone. Just like you. I want peace. You will never see me wishing harm on anyone.”

Palestinians have long been aware of terrorists/terrorists’ kleptocracies confiscating Palestinians’ funds earmarked for e.g., housing and social reform which should have resulted in a qualitatively superior life. Instead, Hamas has been syphoning off Palestinians’ economic capital, committing financial fraud, and paying off terrorists, most whom are proxies for Iran.
Some in e.g., entertainment and politics seek, out the media for a “comeback”, to recapture and subtly hint of a racialized agenda for narcissistic motives: e.g., trending chic; to increase their following; gain socioeconomic capital; or are gripped by a competition for one-upmanship. A few five-more-minutes-of-famers gear up with an axe to grind, proving more to themselves, their own respectability and cerebral proclivities, punctuating every every opportunity with their readership of their insightful, political profundities. Some anti-Semites harken to and promote false and radicalized narratives regarding October 7th. This becomes even more egregious in light of Hamas’s continued lack of accountability.
Palestinians have been forced to publicly nullify Palestinians own horrific experiences at the hands of Hamas for the past twenty years. All the while, many Palestinians have been dependent on Israel’s Department of Health and Education, quietly providing medical services and relevant, cultural exchange programs for children and students to share and advance good relations.
