As the coronavirus pandemic continues to plague the nation, leaving most Americans confined to their homes, the presidential race is heating up.
On Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders ended his campaign for president, making way for Joe Biden to secure the Democratic nomination and face off against Trump in the November election.
According to CNN, Sanders revealed the news in a phone call with his campaign before releasing a press release, coupled with a formal confirmation letter. This serves as Sanders’ second defeat, after his 2016 attempt to beat former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
The news also comes amid the coronavirus, which put an end to all in-person campaign efforts for both Sanders and Biden, the publication reports. Many states were even forced to delay their primary elections, but with the recent departure, the Senator has cleared Biden’s path to the Democratic nomination.
