Voting isn’t just a civic duty—it’s one of the most powerful ways to influence the policies and leadership that shape our communities. For the Black community, voting is even more critical as it’s a tool to protect civil rights, advance social justice, and address issues like economic inequality and systemic racism. With ongoing efforts to suppress Black voter participation, the importance of being informed, registered, and ready to vote cannot be overstated.

As the 2024 elections draw closer, BET Media Group is gearing up to host the 5th Annual National Black Voter Day on September 20, 2024. This initiative, created in partnership with the National Urban League, NAACP, and over 40 other civic engagement organizations, aims to empower Black voters by promoting voter education, registration, and participation in upcoming local, state, and national elections.
As part of the initiative, BET is launching a full day of activities designed to engage the Black community across the country. Programming across BET’s platforms today includes dedicated civic engagement content, voter registration tools, and digital campaigns aimed at educating viewers. On-screen, lower thirds featuring QR codes will guide audiences to voter registration information, while public service announcements from influential leaders and the Divine 9 will further amplify the message.
“We are dedicated to educating and amplifying the voices of Black voters and the issues most relevant to the Black community,” said Kimberly Paige, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at BET. “National Black Voter Day is about ensuring our community’s voice is loud, clear, and impossible to ignore.”
To kick off National Black Voter Day, BET is hosting a Vote Fest Rally in Philadelphia, co-hosted by Yandy Smith and Beano French. The event will feature performances by artists like JT, Pusha T, KUR, and DJ Diamond Kuts, as well as interactive voter registration stations. The rally aims to bring together community leaders, influencers, and voters for an empowering day of action.
BET is also focused on engaging younger voters. In collaboration with NextGen America, BET recently hosted an HBCU campus cookout and concert at North Carolina A&T University, featuring performances from Pretty Vee, Rapsody, and Finesse2Tymes. The event was centered around encouraging voter registration among young people and highlighting the critical role that HBCU students play in driving voter participation.
To further the conversation, BET will host a panel discussion called Power in Our Hands: Black Men and the Path to Political Impact at Philadelphia City Hall. The discussion, moderated by BET’s Tiyale Hayes, will explore key statistics about Black male voters and address the issues that matter most to them. The event is designed to shine a light on the impact Black men can have at the polls.
BET’s voter initiative doesn’t stop with National Black Voter Day. The network is also planning key events and activations leading up to Election Day on November 5, 2024. A significant focus will be on early voting, with initiatives highlighted during the BET Hip Hop Awards, and a push for turnout on Election Day.
