“But I have this thing where and it’s not that negative comments won’t affect you but I don’t remember the last time I’ve lost sleep over a hater.” –Tyrese
When you put two of the most vocally talented recording artists alongside Karen Civil it is sure to be an epic moment. Fans sat in as Karen Civil interviewed singer/actor Tyrese Gibson and singer Kelly Rowland during BET’s Genius Talks powered by AT&T. While many have grew up following each of their careers. Both Kelly and Tyrese opened up to fans about their views on coming into the industry, being parents, pros and cons of social media, and upcoming projects. It was positive, inspiring, and empowering to listen the two allow fans to become closer to them.
On being parents and how it’s changed their life:
“At the end of the day there’s this urge to create a certain level of financial stability so that you don’t have to take every gig and every opportunity from every phone call that comes in and that’s a way to sacrifice as a parent.”- Tyrese
“I keep thinking of that fact that I have to raise a great man for a great woman. And I just feel like I don’t want him to choose someone unavailable. I always want to be there for him and I’m enjoying motherhood.”- Kelly Rowland
Both continued to speak on how you have to pick and choose in the industry and why believing in yourself is important. Now while Tyrese stated rumors of him starring as the Green Lantern is untrue he did admit he is in negotiations and would be honored to play the role.
The two also provided a peek into their upcoming projects. Kelly will be working on her make up line and her new documentary Chasing Destiny as she searches to create a new music group for this generation. Tyrese will be releasing his last solo album Black Rose since this will be his 20th year in music but he has many projects to come including his own movie studio.
