The recently released “Renaissance” album by Beyoncé is getting another change.
According to reports, Beyoncé has now taken down an interpolation of Kelis’ “Milkshake” from her song “Energy” on the music streaming sites TIDAL and Apple Music, only days after Kelis accused the singer and producers The Neptunes of theft for using the song without speaking to her.
“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all three parties involved is astounding,” she wrote in response to a fan’s Instagram post that mentioned the sample. “I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity, and they have everyone fooled.”
“The reality is that my real beef is not only with Beyoncé because at the end of the day, but she also sampled a record, she’s copied me before, so have many artists, it’s fine, I don’t care about that,” Kelis said. She added that it would have been “common decency” for Beyoncé to notify her in advance that she would be using the sample.
She added, “Especially because, as so many of you pointed out — I know what I own and what I don’t own. I also know the lies that were told. I also know the things that were stolen. Publishing was stolen, and people were swindled out of rights. It happens all the time, especially back then,” Kelis said. “So, it’s not about me being mad about Beyoncé.”
